My work has been varied over the years and I have explored quite a few forms of expression in painting but I have never relinquished what I regard as the true tenets of Art, such as composition, form, colour etc. women of which incidentally I find sadly lacking in much contemporary work, not to mention skill (almost a dirty word in some circles!) My inspiration for much of my figurative work has always been from nature and everyday life and my sojourn at Nancledra (then still quite rural) allowed me to capitalise on the understanding I had gained working with trees and seeking adventure in the wilder parts of Derbyshire and Yorkshire. These are my roots but I also have a great affection for Wales, and the English Lake District which I always visit twice a year and much of my work figures this landscape. Mountain areas have always attracted me and I have spent many days walking and climbing in the hills. Some of my best adventures have been in the Pyrenees. Having said that, I am still quite happy to explore the relationship between a few simple objects on a table and still life has always been one of the cornerstones of my work. Art changes, not always for the better, but I think that an artist should perhaps be looking to reflect the constant truths in our lives and not merely to become a follower of the latest fashionable way to paint. Finally, I owe a debt to Cornwall and I hope that I have come some way already to repaying that by celebrating the beauty around us with my paintings. The Little Picture Gallery has some prints and cards by Victor, but he has a studio in Penzance where he is every day and would be happy to meet anyone who would like to see his larger works there.
