Artist’s Statement

My work falls into two main categories; observational studies from life and my more idiosyncratic compositions of figures in gardens, landscapes and interiors.  These latter works are a mixture of the observed and the imagined.  They are a celebration of things important to me; space, seclusion, quiet friendship, gardens and afternoon tea. Sometimes they are painted to evoke a passing emotion which I hope will strike a chord with the spectator. Always I strive to produce an image that will convey real visual pleasure.
