John lives and works at Henford, Ashwater, near the North Cornwall coast and specializes in watercolour landscapes and seascapes.

He writes for national artists’ magazines and hosts demonstrations and workshops both at his studio and for art societies in the West Country.

In 1972 a well-intentioned careers adviser persuaded John to forget Art College and train as an architect and architectural illustrator, so painting became a secondary activity for the next twenty years.   The architectural career led to overseas postings in Africa and Borneo before returning to freelance work in the UK

He took full-time landscape and seascape painting in 1991 and has steadily developed an individual style and approach in his use of watercolour.

John was born in Panteg, South Wales in May 1955.  He gained a BA in Architecture at the University of Wales in 1976.   He was admitted to the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) in 1980.   Changed career to full time painting in 1991.   He was admitted to the Society of Architectural Illustrators in 1992.

His hobbies are music (folk sessions down the local pub) and catamaran sailing – providing much of the inspiration for his wavescapes.

He also runs a 25 acre smallholding, which provides plenty of vistas for landscapes.

John came to live in Devon in 1996 and says we won’t move again, unless it is to St Ives.
