Janet was born in South Africa.   She achieved a  BA in Fine Art at  Stellenbosch University in 1968.

 

She moved to the U.K. in 1974.   Worked as a graphic designer and illustrator in advertising but has painted full time since about 1984.   She was elected to the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour in April 2002.   She exhibits widely in the UK, including Look Gallery in Helmsley, Yorkshire, the Bourne Gallery, Reigate;  The Royal West of England Academy, Bristol;  Noott Gallery, Broadway;   The Little Picture Gallery, Mousehole, and various galleries in the West Country;  also in London at the Bankside, Churzee, Llewellyn Alexander, Mall, Medici, and with Manya Igel Fine Arts.

 

Janet has also exhibited regularly in the Singer and Friedlander/Sunday Times Watercolour Competition, the Discerning Eye, and the Tregaquarelle in Tregastelle, France from 1998–2002.

Janet works mainly in watercolour, but also in oils, gouache and tempera.   Favourite subjects are interiors and still-lifes, exploring the quiet delights of everyday things, with particular interest in detail and the different effects of light.   Also enjoys experimenting when time allows.

 

She has recently moved from Penzance to France where she continues to paint.
